Just back from seven days in beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The bf and I rented a lovely 'studio penthouse' condo, and I spent time sketching two views of the rambling foliage and buildings above us. PV is quite hilly and I was smack in the middle of some big ones.
This is the drawing that I completed before leaving PV. It's from a 5.5x8.5" paper sketchbook, drawn in colored pencil with oil pastel accents. Took lots of photo references for this and other PV scenes. I'm excited to lightbox it, draw it larger, and see how it improves at 3x the scale.
Here is the underdrawing, which was done in dark blue colored pencil, and the view that I sketched. Took me awhile to work through the leafy lower area. I kept getting lost in how to balance the lines of the plants. Next time I will leave out the flower pots and the garden hutch.
